Joseph Aungiers, Campbell Darcy, Alfie Steel, Louis Stephenson and Kasper Williams all played a massive part in the Seasiders' Northern Premier League survival in the 2024/25 season, and it would not have been possible to attract them had it not been for Whitby Town supporters pledging towards the 1926 Club.
The 1926 Club also helped to bring in permanent signing Nathan McGinley, towards the back end of the last campaign. Experienced former EFL defender McGinley has now committed to the club for the 2025/26 season.
When it was first launched in 2018, Whitby Town supporters got right behind the 1926 Club from the off, however it's been realised that reliance on pledges being paid manually isn't sustainable for the campaign to work effectively.
Following Friday's AGM, where it was suggested that the 1926 Club was revamped, the Board of Directors have acted upon this and are delighted to introduce details of how the campaign will work for the 2025/26 season.
Gary Liddle is looking to add to an already-strong squad to ahead of the 2025/26 season, aiming to build give the club and supporters the success they crave.
This is where supporters can play integral part in helping the club achieve this. As a member-owned club, there is no 'money man' to bankroll the club, and with the ever-increasing costs of running a non-league football club, added to by the demands of players in this era, investment from club members is a potential avenue for making the difference between a successful and unsuccessful season on the pitch.
Each season, the manager's playing budget is carefully considered with the ambition of it being sufficient to bring success to the Towbar Express Stadium, however injuries and suspensions can hamper the Board's ambitions when the squad is light on numbers.
The Board of Directors know that making a financial commitment to the club may not be possible for everyone. However, if you are fortunate enough to be able to invest for the coming season, it will make a significant and material difference to the playing budget and the targets Gary Liddle and the club hope to secure. As with previous years, any and all contributions are appreciated.
What's changed?
Since the initial launch of the 1926 Club, the account, specifically set up for help towards player additions (separate from the main club account), has relied on supporters making a pledge and subsequently paying this manually when their criteria for donation was met (ie £5 for every home win, £10 for every goal scored away).
To secure guaranteed income from supporters who sign up, Direct Debits have been set up to take your chosen payment on the 9th of each of the next ten months between July 2025 and April 2026. The 9th being the chosen date to coincide with the first scheduled fixture for the 2025/25 Northern Premier League Premier Division season.
