Early Christmas present for Blues at Wincham Park

Whitby Town came home with the three points after a 3-2 victory over Witton Albion

Whitby Town claimed a first league win since September with a thrilling 3-2 triumph at Wincham Park against Witton Albion

The scoring was opened after 23 minutes when Jake Hackett calmly rolled his penalty kick into the bottom corner, albeit under Chris Renshaw.

Witton equalised 11 minutes later when Will Jones was left unmarked at the back post to score into the bottom left-hand corner of Shane Bland's goal.

Whitby then went back in front just a minute later through debutant, Paul Blackett who was released by Corey Roper before scoring into the unguarded goal of Renshaw from a tight angle.

And then just another minute later Witton were gifted a chance to equalise from 12 yards but Danny McKenna's penalty was superbly saved by Shane Bland.

The Seasiders then extended their lead two minutes after that when Adam Gell's shot was only parried into the path of Corey Roper who smashed the ball into the roof of the net from close range.

Luke Bythway was dismissed five minutes into the second half following a dangerous challenge on Tom Owens.

Fortunately, Albion could not take advantage until the 91st minute when Liam Goulding poked the ball over the line from close range.

This would not be enough and Whitby hung on for a much needed three points ahead of their Boxing Day clash with South Shields.
