The Gateshead Academy forward is also capable of playing in an attacking midfield role and his first involvement in a First Team squad came when he made the bench for a National League meeting with Oldham Athletic in February 2023.

Thompson would go on to make his debut in March that year, going off the bench against Farsley Celtic to help Gateshead progress to the 2023 Isuzu FA Trophy semi-finals, starting in the penalty shoot-out win over Barnet.

He would then appear in the final of the competition, being introduced as a substitute against FC Halifax Town at Wembley Stadium.

Thompson put pen-to-paper on his first professional contract with the club in June 2023, making a number of first team appearances since.

The attack-minded player has also spent time on loan with Ashington, Blyth Spartans and Darlington.
