The midfielder most recently returned to Whitby in September 2024 after a brief spell away at Bishop Auckland and quickly re-established himself as a reliable and consistent presence in the squad side, contributing valuable experience, energy, and leadership in the centre of the pitch. Speaking after signing an extension, Gell said he was "delighted" to remain at the Towbar Express Stadium and was looking forward to continuing his journey with the club, working under manager Lee Bullock and assistant Denny Ingram.

Manager Bullock has also been full of praise for the midfielder, highlighting his commitment and influence since returning to the club, describing him as a player who "epitomises exactly the type of character we want at this club."
