Coming to Town: Redcar Athletic

Paul Connolly14 May - 16:00

We take a look at our new opponents in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division, starting with Redcar Athletic...

Last season
The Steelmen come into the league with momentum from back-to-back promotions - winning the Northern League in 2024/25 and the Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One East last season.

Redcar romped to the title in the East section of the division below to earn promotion to the Northern Premier League Premier Division, racking up 105 points from 42 games.

Over the season, they netted a mammoth 140 goals, conceding 38 - finishing with a +102 goal difference.

In the dugout
Carl Jarrett is the man who has overseen Redcar's rise through the divisions after joining the club in January 2024.

The former Marske United manager is assisted by former Whitby Town midfielder Dave McTiernan, with the pair forming a partnership that stretches back to Jarrett's time in charge of Marske United.

Jarrett and McTiernan signed five-year contracts at the Hollou Sports Stadium in April, committing their long-term futures to the club.

The pair will be joined on the sidelines by another former Blue in Kev Burgess, who has taken up a player-coach role with the Steelmen, while Paul Franklin completes the management team.

Where do they play?
Redcar Athletic play at the Hollou Sports Stadium, on Green Lane in Redcar.

Have we met before?
Whitby's only competitive meeting with Redcar Athletic came in December 2017, when the Steelmen - then of the Wearside League - knocked Whitby out of the North Riding Senior Cup at the second round stage.

Redcar ran out 1-0 winners over the Seasiders, thanks to a Jordan Rivis goal. John Campbell saw a penalty hit the crossbar for Whitby as they exited the County Cup.
