Frankie Whelan to Depart Whitby Town After Rejecting New Contract Offer

Liam Ryder21 May - 12:30

Following discussions between the club and Frankie Whelan, we can confirm that Frankie has rejected the offer of a new contract.

This means the centre-back will depart Whitby Town following the expiration of his current deal this summer.

Since arriving at the Towbar Express Stadium from Middlesbrough ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, Whelan quickly established himself as an important figure within the squad.

The composed centre-back made 34 appearances during his debut season, scoring once and earning the Players’ Player of the Year award for his performances at the heart of the defence.

Frankie’s commitment, professionalism and attitude both on and off the pitch made him a popular figure amongst supporters, staff and teammates alike.

Despite the club presenting a new contract offer in the hope of continuing that relationship, Frankie has decided the time is right to pursue a new opportunity elsewhere.

Everyone at Whitby Town would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Frankie for his efforts during his time with the Seasiders. His performances, maturity and consistency played a key role throughout a challenging campaign, and he leaves with the best wishes of everybody connected with the football club.

We thank Frankie for his contribution in blue and wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.
