Mackenzie Heaney will make a loan move abroad ahead of Whitby Town's return to competitive action

Mackenzie Heaney has joined Icelandic club Grindavik FC on a short-term loan until the 20th August.

Whitby Town were approached by the Icelandic top-flight club for the services of Heaney with no football currently being played in the Northern Premier League so the move makes sense for all concerned parties.

Heaney's temporary home is the men's football department of the Ungmennafélag Grindavíkur multi-sport club and they finished in 11th spot in their league last season.

Due to the harsh winters in Iceland, the season is played during spring and summer meaning that our recent signing should get a good amount of action over the coming weeks.

The Seasiders' manager Chris Hardy hopes that this move can help Heaney get to full fitness ahead of his first campaign with the club.

"With the delayed start to our season, this is an opportunity for Mackenzie to get some game time," Hardy said.

"This is priceless and much better than him being sat at home just working on individual fitness work.

"We want him match-fit and this move will put him in good stead to come to us in pre-season and to then hit the ground running."
