Anthony signed from Bishop Auckland in July 1995 and made 15 appearances for the Seasiders, scoring three goals before joining Guisborough Town in February 1996. He made his debut as a substitute in a 1-0 home defeat to RTM Newcastle on 30th September 1995 and his full debut away to Peterlee Newtown on the 21st October that year in a 5-0 victory.
When my Dad [Tony Lee] took over as manager, I was only a nipper. He was there for five years and Whitby had an amazing side and made amazing memories.
I joined as a player in around 1995 and I left when Harry Dunn came in as boss and this was a bit awkward because he'd just left Bishop Auckland and my Dad got his job!
Whitby are a great club and have a great set up with great supporters. I travelled with Steve Corden when I first signed.
I left the season Whitby won the FA Vase (1996-97) and I went to Guisborough who lost in the semi-finals!
I had five great seasons at Bishop Auckland after but sadly retired aged 27. I had arthritis in my hips and I've had two hip replacements as a result.
TEAM OF MY TIME
Anthony was asked to name his best Whitby Town XI from his time at the club but asked not to include himself as he didn't feel he'd played enough games. Instead he named his eleven from the sides managed by his father when he first attended as a boy (circa 1980) up to the present day:
1 David Campbell
2 Les Scott
3 Dave Logan
4 Stuart Coleby
5 John Gollogly
6 Jeff Lilley
7 Andy Toman
8 Neil Hodgson
9 Derek Hampton
10 Ronnie Sills
11 Paul Pitman
Subs: Richie Walker, Neil Grannycombe, Phil Linacre, Anthony Ormerod, Bobby Kerr, Graeme Williams.
