Liddle hails Whitby staff and fans upon departure

Paul Connolly8 Feb - 18:30

Departing Whitby Town manager Gary Liddle has described his time at the club as an "unbelievable experience".

Liddle has joined National League club Hartlepool United as Assistant Manager to Nicky Featherstone, after sixty games in charge of the Seasiders.

His final game in the dugout was the 0-0 draw away at Hednesford Town, and the former Blues boss was full of praise for the people around the club when speaking post-match.

"I’ll look back on the last 17 or 18 months as an unbelievable experience," Liddle reflected.

"I was sort of thrown into management - which I was eager to do - at what I already knew was a great football club, and as with every club at this level there’s been a lot of ups and downs.

"I’ve met some unbelievable people along the way and I’m very thankful for the help I’ve had off those people, and the support of the fans over that time.

"I’ve been very lucky in that time that I’ve had some great staff - both paid and voluntary - who have given a lot.

"I'm gutted to be leaving, but I'm also proud of the work that I've been able to at Whitby Town.

"Hopefully people won’t be too disappointed or too angry that I've left but see my time here as a relative success."

Liddle leaves having led the club to survival last season, a highlight achieved by four consecutive wins at the end of that campaign.
