Throughout the season, our matchday programme and club website will shine a spotlight on fans who have their own unique connection to Whitby Town, showcasing how support for the club reaches well beyond the North Yorkshire coast.

Our first story, featured in Saturday's matchday programme against Pickering Town, comes from Argentina, where supporter Bautista Perez discovered Whitby Town in the most unexpected way.

Football has a way of finding people in places you might never expect. For Bautista, that journey began thousands of miles away from home during a school trip to England.

"I’m from Argentina," Bautista explained. "During a school trip we travelled to England. We passed through Whitby, and a friend and I decided to visit the stadium."

There was no match taking place that day and no crowd filling the stands, but something about the club left a lasting impression. Whether it was the setting, the history or simply the experience of discovering a football club away from the spotlight, Whitby Town had gained a new supporter.

Back in Argentina, that brief visit soon developed into a lasting interest in the Seasiders.

"Usually, to check the results, I go online," said Bautista. "I’ve never been able to see them play in person because when I went, it wasn’t match season."

Despite the distance, his connection to the club has remained strong. What began as curiosity soon became something he wanted to share with those around him.

"When we returned to Argentina, I told some friends and family about the club," he recalled. "I even showed them a pennant I had bought."

That small souvenir became a reminder of a much bigger story - one that highlights football’s ability to connect people across continents. While Bautista follows the club from afar, his support is no less passionate, demonstrating that Whitby Town’s reach extends far beyond the Yorkshire coastline.

Perhaps one day the fixture calendar will fall into place and Bautista will finally be able to experience a match at the Towbar Express Stadium, cheering on the Seasiders from the stands rather than from thousands of miles away.
