Whitby Town lost out on penalties against York City in the quarter-finals

Whitby Town's run in the North Riding Senior Cup came to an end on Tuesday evening as they lost out on penalties to National League North side, York City.

Despite being two goals behind at the break, the Seasiders reacted well to level the scores at 2-2 at full time.

The Blues now only have the BetVictor Northern Premier to focus on as they go in search of a play-off place.

Josh King opened the scoring with just nine minutes on the clock as he prodded home from close range following a corner.

City then doubled their lead right on half-time when Dan Maguire lobbed the ball over Shane Bland's head from the edge of the area.

Whitby got themselves back into the game on 65 minutes as Paul Blackett found the net from a tight angle after a ball over the top from Dale Hopson.

Town then levelled matters in the 95th minute when Kieran Weledji managed to get the ball into the back of the net from close range following a goalmouth scramble.

In the shoot-out Jassem Sukar and Evan Horwood saw their kicks saved by Ryan Whitley, however Paul Blackett, Callum Patton and Daniel Rowe scored from twelve yards.

For York Tom Allen hit the bar with their first penalty but Josh King, Will Jackson, Reiss Harrison and Dom Jackson scored theirs to send the Minstermen through to the semi-finals.
