Rowe Ready For Ashton Battle

Rowe Ready For Ashton Battle

Liam Ryder12 Jan 2023 - 19:30

Whitby Town return to Pitching In Northern Premier League action on Saturday afternoon, with Daniel Rowe ready for the challenge ahead.

The Seasiders host their Ashton United counterparts at the Towbar Express Stadium @ The Turnbull Ground (kick-off 3pm) as they aim to put Tuesday night's disappointment against Guiseley behind them and re-start their pursuit of climbing the league table.

Captain Rowe, who has virtually been an ever-present for the Blues this season, reflected on the midweek loss against the Lions which was played in awful conditions.

The defender, who joined Whitby from Frickley Athletic in 2019, told whitbytownfc.com: "It was terrible all round really. The conditions were terrible to start with and that didn't help us in the first half. I think it died down a bit in the second half.

"The conditions made it difficult to play football so we couldn't really get our creative players into the game.

"It was always going to be hard against the wind and we conceded two avoidable goals which was especially disappointing.

"It's one to forget and hopefully we can move on now and focus on Saturday."

Just a few days on from that wet and windy Tuesday evening, the conditions at Town's home are expected to be very similar come Saturday afternoon. With this in mind, Rowe assessed how he feels he and his teammates can make improvements in the home games to come.

The centre-back added: "I think we know what to expect now. It's going to be difficult but we've somehow got to find a way to play football in those conditions.

"We'll need to battle through it and find goals from somewhere. In these sorts of the games the first goal can be key as you'd rather have something to hold onto rather than chasing the game when you're behind."
