Volunteer Coordinator - Join Our Club and Make a Difference Behind the Scenes

Liam Ryder8 Apr - 18:30

Whitby Town is at the heart of the local community, powered not just by what happens on the pitch.

We are now looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Volunteer Coordinator to lead, support, and grow our volunteer network.

This is a rewarding voluntary opportunity for someone who is passionate about non-league football and wants to play a vital role in ensuring the club runs smoothly, safely, and successfully.

About the Role
As Volunteer Coordinator, you will be responsible for developing and managing a strong, motivated team of volunteers who support all aspects of club activity. From matchdays to community events, your work will ensure that every role is filled by capable, confident individuals who feel valued and supported.

This is a hands-on, people-focused position that combines organisation, leadership, and a genuine commitment to creating a positive volunteer experience.

Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment
You will lead efforts to attract new volunteers by developing engaging role descriptions and promoting opportunities via social media and matchday programmes via the Media & Communications Manager, and also local community channels.

Recruitment & Selection
Overseeing the onboarding process, you’ll conduct interviews to match individuals’ skills with the club’s needs and ensure all necessary checks (including DBS where applicable) are completed.

Induction & Training
You will ensure every volunteer receives a thorough induction, understands club policies (including safeguarding), and feels confident in their role from day one.

Matchday Coordination
On matchdays and key events, you’ll manage volunteer deployment - ensuring roles such as turnstile operators, hospitality staff, and tea bar teams are fully staffed.

Retention & Recognition
Keeping volunteers engaged is key. You’ll develop initiatives to make volunteers feel valued, including social events, recognition schemes, and reward opportunities.

Compliance & Policies
You will help maintain a safe and inclusive environment by ensuring the club adheres to FA safeguarding standards, equality and diversity policies, and data protection regulations.

Succession Planning
You’ll identify future leaders within the volunteer team and ensure continuity by planning cover for key roles.

Conflict Resolution
Acting as a point of contact, you will manage and resolve any issues or disputes involving volunteers or interactions with the public.

Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who is approachable, organised, and passionate about working with people. You’ll thrive in this role if you bring:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and lead a diverse group of volunteers.
  • Excellent organisational abilities, particularly in managing schedules, records, and databases.
  • A friendly, proactive attitude that encourages participation and builds a welcoming environment.
  • A solid understanding of non-league football, and an appreciation for the local community.
  • IT confidence, including email, spreadsheets, and (ideally) volunteer management systems.

Why Join Us?
This is more than just a volunteer coordination role - it’s an opportunity to shape the culture and future of the club. You’ll be central to creating a positive, inclusive environment where volunteers feel proud to contribute and be part of something bigger.

If you’re ready to make a real impact behind the scenes and help our club continue to thrive, we’d love to hear from you. Please email info@whitbytownfc.com with a background on your previous experience.
