And Whitby, among other iconic places, prepares to celebrate another World Dracula Day on 26 May 2026.
The annual event marks the publication of Bram Stoker’s legendary novel Dracula, first released on 26 May 1897, and recognises Whitby’s unique place at the heart of one of literature’s most enduring stories.
World Dracula Day was established by the Whitby Dracula Society in 2012 and has since become a global celebration of gothic culture, vampire folklore and the town that inspired it all.
For generations, visitors from across the world have travelled to Whitby to walk the same cobbled streets, climb the famous 199 steps and experience the dramatic atmosphere that captured Stoker’s imagination during his stay in the town.
From the haunting ruins of the Abbey to the dramatic coastline and maritime history, Whitby’s connection to Dracula continues to inspire writers, artists, filmmakers and gothic enthusiasts alike.
That deep connection is something Whitby Town proudly embraced with the launch of the club’s striking Dracula-inspired away shirt. Featuring gothic purple and pink tones, imagery of Whitby Abbey and subtle excerpts from Stoker’s novel woven into the fabric, the shirt has already attracted attention from supporters and Dracula fans around the world.
The design has travelled far beyond the North Yorkshire coast too, with supporters in Romania, including relatives connected to Bram Stoker’s family, proudly wearing the shirt and celebrating Whitby’s worldwide gothic legacy.
Supporters looking to mark World Dracula Day in style can purchase the official Whitby Town away shirt online via Whitby Town Shop.
