Whitby Town held its 2026 Annual General Meeting at the Towbar Express Stadium on Friday evening, bringing together board members, volunteers, supporters and club members to reflect on the past year and look ahead to the 2026/27 season.
The meeting opened with a minute's silence in memory of members of the Whitby Town family who have sadly passed away during the last twelve months.
2025 AGM Minutes Approved
Members approved the minutes from the 2025 Annual General Meeting. A summary of last year's meeting highlighted preparations for the 2025/26 season, financial progress, fundraising initiatives, commercial developments and the club's ongoing plans ahead of its centenary celebrations.
Secretary Reflects on First Months
Club Secretary Paul Walker reflected on a busy first few months in the role and thanked everyone who had supported him since taking up the position.
He reported that fourteen players had already been signed ahead of the new campaign and paid tribute to the volunteers whose work behind the scenes continues to play a vital role in the day-to-day running of the football club.
Financial Position Remains Strong
The club's accounts for the year ending 31 May 2026 were presented on behalf of Treasurer Craig Moth who was absent for family reasons.
Members heard that total income for the year stood at £323,613, with expenditure of £333,987. While the club recorded a deficit of £10,374, this followed an exceptionally strong previous year which had benefited from one-off telecommunications-related income.
Matchday revenues remained stable despite two fewer home fixtures, while fundraising and donations once again demonstrated the tremendous support the club receives from its supporters, volunteers and sponsors.
The balance sheet remains healthy, with fixed assets valued at £310,770 and accumulated funds standing at £175,343.
During discussion of the accounts, members received clarification regarding the club's brewery loan arrangement, which continues to operate as an interest-free facility linked to bar sales. Future investment opportunities for facilities improvements were also discussed.
Positive Update from Management
Lee Bullock provided an update on football matters and praised the work undertaken by Assistant Manager Denny Ingram and his staff since the conclusion of last season.
Members were informed that significant work had been carried out to reshape the squad, with fourteen new signings already secured and discussions continuing with additional players.
Bullock spoke positively about the attitude and commitment shown by both new and returning players and expressed confidence that the squad is in a strong position ahead of the forthcoming season.
Vice Chairman Elected
Members voted to elect Gary Davies as the club's new Vice Chair.
The meeting also unanimously supported the proposal to offer Julie Hansell the role of Club President in recognition of her continued service and commitment to Whitby Town.
Board Structure and Future Development
Graeme Hinchliffe outlined proposals for a revised club structure designed to strengthen operational support across the organisation while maintaining existing governance arrangements.
Members were informed that Owen Cox is expected to work alongside Lee Derrick in supporting the Supporters' Club, while a wider committee structure will help oversee key areas of the club's operations.
Membership and Club Systems
An update was provided regarding the implementation of the club's new EPOS system. While delays had affected the production of membership cards and member discounts, progress is now being made and the system is expected to be fully operational in the near future.
Thanks for Eight Years of Service
During Any Other Business, members expressed their sincere gratitude to Stephen Shields and Beverley Rutherford for their outstanding commitment to the football club.
Eight years ago, Steve and Bev stepped forward to take responsibility for the operation of the bar at a time when nobody else was prepared to do so. Their dedication, hard work and countless volunteer hours have played a major role in supporting the club both financially and operationally, and members wished to place on record their appreciation for everything they have contributed.
Youth Structure Update
Members also received an update regarding the club's youth development structure.
The previous arrangement has come to an end following Middlesbrough College establishing a new working relationship with Middlesbrough FC and another football club. While this represents a significant change, the Board reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and confirmed that discussions are already taking place regarding future opportunities to create new pathways for young players in the Whitby area.
Looking Ahead
The meeting concluded with a positive outlook for the season ahead. Members, volunteers and supporters were thanked for their continued commitment to the club, with everyone encouraged to play their part as Whitby Town continues to build for the future both on and off the pitch.
