Dawes also represented Hartlepool United and Workington during his playing career.
Malcolm spent the 1979/80 season with the Seasiders, making 41 appearances and scoring five goals.
He made his Whitby Town debut in the opening league fixture of the season, featuring in a 1-1 draw against Bishop Auckland at the Turnbull Ground on Saturday, 18 August 1979.
His first goal for the club came on 22 September, as Whitby recorded an entertaining 4-2 home victory over Durham City. Malcolm was also on the scoresheet in an emphatic 8-1 win over Penrith on 19 April.
His final appearance for Whitby came in the last game of the 1979/80 season, when the Blues signed off with a 1-0 home victory over South Bank on 26 April 1980.
Malcolm was an important member of the Whitby side during his time at the club, and his contribution to the club will be remembered fondly.
