Born in Newcastle, James linked up with Middlesbrough at Under-13 level and has progressed through the club's academy system, earning valuable experience at a number of age groups along the way.

The midfielder has also been involved in England camps, further highlighting his potential and development as a young player.

James enjoyed an impressive 2023/24 campaign with Middlesbrough's Under-18s, making more than 25 appearances during the season. His performances at academy level were rewarded with an opportunity at a higher level, as he came on as a substitute against Leeds United in the Premier League 2.

His progress continued to be recognised by Middlesbrough, with James earning his first professional contract ahead of the 2024/25 season.

During that campaign, he continued to gain senior academy experience, making 14 appearances in the Premier League North and featuring three times for Middlesbrough's Under-21s.

Now, James will make the move to Whitby Town for the next month, giving him the opportunity to experience senior football and contribute to the Seasiders' campaign.
