Whitby Town Updates Safeguarding Policy Ahead of 2026/27 Season

Liam Ryder30 May - 19:15

Whitby Town is pleased to confirm the introduction of its updated Safeguarding Policy ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The welfare and wellbeing of children, young, and vulnerable people remain a top priority for the Club.

Our updated policy reinforces Whitby Town's commitment to providing a safe, positive and inclusive environment where every young and vulnerable person can enjoy football free from abuse, harm, discrimination, bullying or poor practice.

The revised policy continues to align with The Football Association's safeguarding standards and reflects the Club's ongoing commitment to ensuring that robust safeguarding measures are embedded across all areas of our organisation.

Key areas covered within the policy include:

  • The Club's safeguarding principles and commitment to protecting children, young, and vulnerable people.
  • Safer recruitment procedures, including safeguarding training and DBS requirements where applicable.
  • Anti-bullying measures and expected standards of behaviour for all participants, volunteers, officials and spectators.
  • Whistleblowing procedures and guidance on reporting concerns.
  • Clear safeguarding reporting pathways and support mechanisms.

Whitby Town believes that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. We encourage all players, parents, carers, volunteers and supporters to familiarise themselves with the updated policy and to remain vigilant in helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone involved with the Club.

The Board of Directors has accepted collective responsibility for implementing, monitoring and reviewing the policy and remains committed to ensuring that all members understand how safeguarding concerns can be reported and addressed appropriately.

Our designated Club Welfare Officer for Adult Teams is Rebecca Harland, who can be contacted at safeguarding@whitbytownfc.com regarding any safeguarding concerns or queries.

As we look forward to the 2026/27 season, we thank everyone connected with Whitby Town for their continued support in promoting a culture of safety, respect and inclusion throughout the Club.
