Local player Soni Fergus opened the scoring with just three minutes played when he headed a Jacob Hazel pass down before firing home from close range beyond Shaun Newbrook.

But no sooner had the Seasiders taken the lead, they found themselves pegged back when Aiden Heywood found space in the box to smash an effort beyond Shane Bland via the post.

Fergus had a chance to get Whitby back in front on 28 minutes but he was denied by Newbrook on this occasion, before Bradley Fewster went close but his curling effort was just wide of the upright.

Fewster had a chance again with 35 played, but after breaking into the area he was denied by a superb sliding block from David Palmer.

Whitby started the second half brightly like they did in the first, and Jacob Hazel was denied by Newbrook who saved well with his feet just two minutes into the half.

New sigining Priestley Griffiths then lined on up from range but his strike was narrowly wide of Newbrook's post.

Next to take a shot for Whitby was Lewis Suddick and he would have scored were it not for the excellent defending from the Railwaymen, with a defender managing to clear off the line.

Shildon posed a threat themselves though and Michael Sweet struck the post on 77 minutes before he was then denied by Bland ten minutes later.
