Bridlington Town 2-2 Whitby Town

Liam Ryder

Whitby Town were left frustrated after conceding twice in the closing stages as Bridlington Town rescued a 2-2 draw in Friday night's pre-season friendly.

The Seasiders looked on course for victory after producing another encouraging display in their preparations for the 2026/27 campaign. Having controlled large periods of the contest, Lee Bullock's side built a two-goal advantage before the hosts mounted a late comeback.

Whitby struck first in the 34th minute when former Bridlington man Stan Hewitt found the breakthrough with a tidy finish from the edge of the area, giving the visitors the lead heading into the interval.

The advantage was doubled shortly after the restart as new signing Stuart Rose notched his first goal for the club since joining from Boro Rangers, finishing well to make it 2-0 and put Whitby firmly in command.

With the Seasiders looking comfortable and in control, Bridlington were given a lifeline eight minutes from time when Riley Cooper reduced the deficit. The hosts then found an equaliser three minutes later through Charlie Stewart, ensuring the spoils were shared despite Whitby holding a two-goal lead late on.

While the late goals denied Town victory, there were still plenty of positives for Bullock and Denny Ingram to take from the performance. Whitby again showed their attacking quality and organisation, following up last week's impressive 5-0 win at Marske United with another strong display against Northern Premier League Division One East opposition.
