The Seasiders were made to pay for sloppy defending and passing, struggling to recover after conceding shortly before the half-hour mark, with the hosts producing a clinical display to book their place in the First Round Proper.

Bridlington started brightly and fashioned the first meaningful chances of the contest. Destiny Nnanaya threatened inside the opening minutes, firing into the side netting from close range before forcing a strong save from Whitby goalkeeper Jack Norton just moments later.

The hosts looked dangerous from set pieces too. Tom Allan headed forward from an early corner and saw the ball nodded on over the crossbar as the home side continued to test the Whitby defence.

But the Blues then came within inches of taking the lead after 16 minutes. Callum Hickman created space on the edge of the area and curled a superb effort towards goal, only to see his strike crash against the crossbar with Alex Baird beaten.

After surviving that single scare, Bridlington edged ahead on 28 minutes. Luca Bollino bundled the ball home from close range after Norton and Charlie Stirland failed to deal with the danger between them, giving the hosts the breakthrough their confidence deserved.

Whitby attempted to respond quickly and Leon Parker tested Baird with a low strike from distance, but the Bridlington goalkeeper was equal to it as the home side carried a 1-0 advantage into the interval.

The game swung further in Bridlington’s favour shortly after the restart. Whitby were unable to deal with a corner delivery and the loose ball eventually fell to Allan, whose sliced effort from the edge of the area found its way into the net to double the lead on 51 minutes.

Lee Bullock's side almost found a route back into the contest three minutes later. Joey Phuthi stepped up to a free-kick in a promising position and struck a powerful effort that flashed narrowly wide of the target.

However, any hopes of a comeback were effectively ended midway through the second half. Another corner caused problems for the Whitby defence and Allan rose highest to head home, claiming his second goal of the afternoon and extending Bridlington’s lead to 3-0.

Bridlington did not sit back despite their healthy advantage. Nnanaya remained a threat and twice went close to adding to the scoreline. Norton first denied the forward with his feet before later gathering another effort after the ball bounced awkwardly in front of him.

For Whitby, it was an ugly afternoon in East Yorkshire. The Blues struggled to create opportunities, and Bridlington proved ruthless in both penalty areas to bring Whitby’s involvement in this season’s FA Trophy to an end.
