Saturday's opening match of the season at the Proctor Cars Stadium pairs two of the longest serving members in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division.
Last season produced two thrilling encounters, particularly the tie in Derbyshire in November 2021 as Whitby upset the then-league leaders on their own patch.
Whitby led 1-0 early on through Soni Fergus who scored his first competitive goal for the club after being recalled from his loan spell at Pickering Town just that week.
Bradley Fewster added a second for the Seasiders, who were worthy of their 2-0 lead, before the hosts halved the deficit just before the break.
It would be Whitby who would go on to claim the three points however as a third strike from Priestley Griffiths all-but killed Matlock off. There was still time for Jesurun Uchegbulam to add what turned out to be a consolation goal late on.
The reverse fixture at a windswept Towbar Express Stadium @ The Turnbull Ground saw the sides play out a 2-2 draw in a match which saw the cold February conditions dominate.
In terms of team news, Whitby are set to welcome both Shane Bland and Jonathan Burn back to the match day squad after the pair missed the Blues' final pre-season outing at Brighouse Town last Saturday due to other commitments.
