The experienced centre-forward - who returned to the club from Bishop Auckland in December 2024 - converted a penalty kick from twelve yards after 73 minutes to net his first goal since September.
Ian Deakin's side had carried a threat but it was the hosts who found a way to win in tough winter conditions under the Towbar Express Stadium floodlights.
In the end Tymon's contribution proved decisive - and set Gary Liddle's men up perfectly for their trip to Prescot Cables on Saturday afternoon.
The game started brilliantly, with both sides threatening inside the first ten minutes. The Whitby defence and goalkeeper Shane Bland had to make two vital stops very early on; the first was from Dylan Youmbi, who forced Harley Dawson to block bravely. Shortly afternoon, Bland was forced into a relatively comfortably hold from Sam Essien.
It was an open, entertaining start and the hosts played their part too, with Jake Charles peeling into space leading to a sight of goal, but his low strike was well blocked.
The Seasiders had an even clearer opening soon after when Donald Chimalilo must have thought he'd scored when he connected firmly with a right-footed attempt. Somehow, though, it was deflected narrowly wide of the post.
As the half went on, Liddle's men began to really click into gear. A frantic spell of pressure inside the Ilkeston defensive box saw Adam Gell flash an effort wide via a deflective following a spell of pin-ball, before Dawson headed just wide from the corner that followed.
Ilkeston came into the match on fine form in the Pitching In Northern Premier League, and their confidence was evident - it took a timely defensive block to prevent Youmbi from finding the net on the half-volley.
And ahead of half-time, Chimalilo struck wide of the post with a curling attempt which perhaps had Alfie Roberts concerned before it flew off target. It would have been a deserved goal for the Zambian, lively and exciting again in the Whitby attack.
The second half didn't quite flow as freely as the first 45 had, though there was a sense that the game was there for the Seasiders' taking. Liddle sought to get ahead by sending Ben Farrar on in Charles' place, and introducing Lewis Hawkins for Gell, who was finding himself getting his second consecutive start.
Deakin's charges made a fist of the second half but couldn't muster a goal. Colin Daniel was the one player to find a chance of note as he shot well wide from distance.
In the 73rd minute the headline moment arrived. Farrar's darting run into the box was halted by the dangling leg of a defender and it was Tymon who stepped up to send Roberts the wrong way from the resulting penalty kick.
A rushed clearance led to Tymon whipping a shot onto the crossbar from range with an audacious lob, but another goal wasn't forthcoming meaning his spot-kick was all it took for the Seasiders to take their first three points of 2026 in their second outing of the year.
