The hosts made the brighter start in what was initially a cagey affair, gradually asserting control of possession and territory. Their early pressure paid off in the 17th minute when Owen rose well inside the box to meet a delivery and guide a composed header beyond the Shane Bland to give Guiseley the lead.

Whitby responded with a series of opportunities midway through the first half. Their first real sight of goal came on 24 minutes when Jake Charles found space in the area, but his close-range header from Aaron Haswell’s left-wing cross drifted wide. Just three minutes later, Charles again threatened - this time winning the ball out wide before driving inside and unleashing a low effort that was smartly saved by Joe Cracknell.

Despite those chances, Guiseley maintained their narrow advantage heading into the break, with the first half ending 1-0.

The second period followed a similar pattern, with both sides battling for control but struggling to create clear openings. Layton Watts came close shortly after the restart, sending a half-volley narrowly wide from distance in the 47th minute.

Whitby’s best chance to level arrived on 66 minutes when James Harrison was played through on goal by Watts. However, Cracknell stood firm, producing an excellent save to preserve Guiseley’s lead.

As the game opened up late on, Guiseley looked dangerous on the counter-attack. Mo Fadera came close to sealing the result in the 86th minute when he found space in the box, only to see his effort crash against the upright. The forward struck the post again in stoppage time, capping a frustrating but lively cameo in front of goal for the home side's substitute.

In the end, Owen’s early header proved decisive as Guiseley held firm to secure all three points in a closely contested encounter.
