Whitby Town sent a statement to the rest of the BetVictor Northern Premier on Tuesday night as they claimed an impressive 3-1 victory against Lancaster City.
The Blues had a wretched recent record against Lancaster heading into this game at the Giant Axe, but this was put right against another play-off chasing side.
Chris Hardy's side were full value for the three points and closed the gap on the top five with games in hand setting the scene for a potentially exciting end to the season.
Matthew Tymon gave the Seasiders the lead on 19 minutes after a flurry of Whitby chances. He eventually finished after having his initial shot saved, and Bradley Fewster saw the same outcome, but the striker was on hand to smash the ball home at the third Town attempt.
In the second half, Jassem Sukar was fortunate not to have come off injured as he was caught high but the foot of David Norris. The Lancaster man received his marching orders as a result.
Tymon then doubled the lead after 71 minutes when Evan Horwood played a dangerous ball across the face of goal from the left before it virtually hit Tymon on the goal-line to get the second.
City got one back with nine minutes of normal time to go when Ryan Rydel scored with a powerful strike from a tight angle which Shane Bland was unable to keep out.
Town then made sure of the victory in stoppage time when Callum Patton scored from just inside the area after a deflection which took the ball away from Sam Ashton.
