Whitby Town were disappointing as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Stafford Rangers at Marston Road on Saturday afternoon. This was their first defeat in eight matches.

The Seasiders expected a tough encounter against a side who pushed them right to the wire in the earlier home fixture last month. That day saw Whitby win by the same scoreline.

They were given a big learning curve in the latest meeting as a below-par squad disappointed as they look to reach the play-off places in the BetVictor Northern Premier.

Whitby took the lead on 14 meetings after several efforts on goal. Eventually Evan Horwood squared the ball to Kieran Weledji who calmly finished from close range.

Stafford equalised just two minutes later when a powerful strike from distance from from Alex Harvey found the top corner of Shane Bland's goal. The goalkeeper could do little about it.

Rangers then took the lead with just four minutes of normal time to go as Jake Charles headed home from close range after a quick attack from them.
