The home side had won all three of their previous matches on home turf, but despite falling behind after just 30 seconds, two quick-fire second half strikes saw them claim all three points in Derbyshire.
It wasn't the best showing of the season by any stretch for the Blues, but they showed their resiliance to grind out a narrow victory on their travels.
Andy Dales opened the scoring straight from the kick-off, firing beyond Shane Bland on the half-volley from just inside the area. The midfielder was recently on the books at League One Scunthorpe United and he certainly showed his quality with this strike.
Whitby looked rattled by this bright start from their opponents and they could have found themselves two down within the first ten minutes when Priestley Griffiths failed to clear the ball which presented Kevin Bacon with a goalscoring opportunity. Griffiths was able to make amends by getting a foot to the ball just before the Mickleover forward could get his shot away.
Town had their first real chance on ten minutes and it came from a surprising source as defender, Jameel Ible cut inside before curling just wide with an effort on his weaker left foot.
The Seasiders may have been slowly growing into the game without really threatening Callum Hawkins' goal, but the hosts continued to pose their own threat on the attack and Dales fired wide when he could have done better with 20 minutes played.
Dales would be involved in a moment of controversy on 35 minutes when he appeared to throw a punch at Ible after he was challenged from behind. Fortunately for him the referee was unable to see his action from his position on the pitch at the time and he escaped punishment.
The game was beginning to heat up as half-time neared with Jassem Sukar being carded for a late challenge which, ironically, received calls for him to be sent off with Dales leading the shouts.
The first half ended with Mickleover's Kemy Augustien seeing a long-range effort deflected wide. The break was perhaps welcome for the Whitby players who could sit down and pull themseleves together for the second 45 minutes.
It was the home outfit who did have the first couple of chances of the second period though with Bacon and Bobby Battison both firing over the crossbar from range.
But Whitby would have been level with 49 minutes played were it not for an outstanding save from Hawkins who denied Lewis Ritson from a corner.
In form striker, Jacob Hazel had his first chance of note on 63 minutes but he couldn't hit the target from inside the area, before Roger Lee also fired wide down the other end.
Town would be rewarded for their improved second half showing on 68 minutes when Hazel flicked a ball over the top with his back to goal which found Marcus Giles who took a touch before firing low beyond Hawkins to level matters.
And just four minutes later, Lee Bullock and Nathan Haslam's men would find themselves in front through top scorer Hazel who managed to bundle the ball over the line following a corner.
The quick turnaround changed the complexion of the game and all of a sudden Whitby were well and truly on top, and could easily have extended their lead had Hazel got a better connection on Josh MacDonald's dangerous cross into the area two minutes after his goal.
Given Mickleover's strong home form, a one goal lead was always likely to be dangerous and the hosts would have the final two chances of note.
Stuart Beavon firstly fired just over the bar from the edge of the 18-yard box on 84 minutes before the final scare was given to the Blues depp into stoppage time when Andrew Wright struck the crossbar with Bland looking beaten.
Whitby would hold on for the three points however, much to the relief of the players, as well as another strong away following.
