Scarborough Athletic came into the game on the back of a heard-fought victory on the road at Stafford Rangers, meanwhile Whitby Town went down 1-0 to Witton Albion.
The home side provided the perfect response by thrashing their rivals from down the coast, with three first half goals to secure their 3-0 win in front of a crowd of 1,140.
The opening exchanges were surprisingly open for a derby fixture with both sides keen to venture forwards, but Whitby did take the lead in the 17th minute through Bradley Fewster.
The Seadogs failed to clear a Priestley Griffiths free-kick and the ball fell for Fewster who tapped the ball home from close range, sparking chaos in the crowd.
The first strong tackle of the derby came in the 20th minute, Will Thornton receiving a yellow for his strong challenge on Priestley Griffiths.
Six minutes later after going one ahead, Town doubled their lead through Liam Cooke.
After Jacob Hazel had received the ball on the edge of the area, he passed to Cooke who fired low beyond Ryan Whitley in the Boro goal for 2-0. The goalkeeper, on loan from York City, may well feel he should have done better however as the ball snook under his body.
Scarborough did try to pose a threat of their own, with Nathan Cartman looking the most likely to cause the Blues’ back line some trouble.
He firstly fired straight into the hands of Shane Bland, before then seeing a superb strike disallowed for offside.
At 2-0, Jonathan Greening may have felt his side had a chance of some form of comeback, but these hopes were gone just before the break as they suffered a double whammy.
Initially a free-kick was given to Whitby, but after consulting with his linesman, referee Samuel Ross changed his decision and gave a penalty instead. Dylan Cogill was also sent off for his troubles.
Marcus Giles stepped up to convert, going down the middle with his spot-kick.
In fairness, Boro did have a couple of early second half chances but Jacob Day and Cartman were unable to seriously trouble the Blues’ backline.
Whitby began creating again and Josh MacDonald called Whitley into action in the 53rd minute, with the visiting goalkeeper saving well.
Nathan Dyer then broke into the area before pulling the ball for Hazel but he sliced his effort well wide with Whitley untroubled.
The second half was a lot less eventful than the opening 45 minutes, but Whitby could have extended their lead on 72 minutes when Giles was tripped in the area but by ex-Seasider Kieran Weledji.
Giles stepped up for the second time but on this occasion he fired over the bar from 12 yards.
The game somewhat petered out, however the Scarborough never looked like seriously causing problems all night and the hosts were thoroughly deserving of their victory.
