Whitby Town 1-1 Warrington Town

Liam Ryder29 Jan 2022 - 20:35

Whitby Town made it three games unbeaten with a 1-1 draw against Warrington Town

The windy conditions had a big part to play in the match but the 471 supporters in attendance could have no complaints about the eventual outcome with Harry Green cancelling out Joshua Amis' opener.

Warrington - who were looking to bounce back from a 2-1 home defeat to South Shields the previous week - took the lead in the 36th minute through Amis who capitalised when Whitby failed to clear their lines.

The other first half chances fell to Jordan Buckley, who fired wide twice, and Bohan Dixon who struck into the hands of Shane Bland. Jacob Hazel went close for the Blues but saw his powerful effort sail over the crossbar.

At the beginning of the second half, Whitby grew into the game without really creating anything clear cut but in the 67th minute they were given a great opportunity to level matters with the referee adjudging that Bradley Fewster had been fouled in the area.

On loan Middlesbrough man Green stepped up to send Daniel Atherton the wrong way from twelve yards and bring Whitby right into the ascendency for the final 22 minutes at the Towbar Express Stadium at the Turnbull Ground.

And in the 80th minute, Priestley Griffiths tried to give his side the lead but could only dink an effort into the hands of Atherton. In the end there was nothing to separate the two play-off chasing sides who remained sixth and seventh in the table respectively.
