Despite Grantham's position at the bottom of the league table, they made a good fist of the game in the first half but the Seasiders made their quality show in the second half, and they could have won far more convincingly.
This routine win away from home gave the traveling Whitby fans plenty to celebrate as they headed into the final six games of the campaign.
Town had started well when, in the ninth minute, a Jake Hackett free-kick was headed into the hands of Jim Pollard by Lewis Hawkins, before, at the other end, Elliott Durrell forced a comfortable save from Shane Bland after the Grantham forward spotted Whitby's keeper slightly off his line.
Hawkins was involved again in the 19th minute as he struck a powerful long-range strike towards goal. After his effort cleared the crossbar, Ali Adeymir curled wide of Bland's post six minutes later.
There was nothing Pollard could do to prevent Jacob Hazel from opening the scoring straight after half-time. Hawkins sent an inviting delivery from midfield into the the box and Hazel stole a march on the defence to send a powerful strike into the net before running to the corner flag to celebrate.
Pollard was able to gather Hawkins' effort in the 56th minute, keeping out an acrobatic overhead kick from the Whitby midfielder, but he was unable to deny him seven minutes after as he made it 2-0.
A Whitby free-kick was played to the edge of the box where Daniel Rowe met the ball with his head, nodding it on to Hawkins who flicked the ball up before volleying home with aplomb - his first goal for the club.
There was still time for Pollard to be worried on a few more occasions, firstly from Bradley Fewster's effort which found the side netting following a corner, before he superbly denied the Whitby forward from point-blank range.
With five minutes left on the clock, a Hazel effort left Pollard beaten but the post denied him grabbing his second of the game.
